Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will transfer crop insurance amount of ₹ 3,200 crore to the bank accounts of 30 lakh farmers today (11 August 2025). This program will be held in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, where Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Union Minister of State Bhagirath Chaudhary will also be present.

Every farmer in India whose crop has been destroyed by a natural disaster can avail the benefits of PMFBY. Whether he is a small farmer or a big one, the doors are open for everyone.

Benefits of the scheme

Under this scheme, farmers get compensation for crop loss in calamities like flood, drought or hailstorm. The money comes directly into their bank account, so that they can start farming again. The best part? Farmers can check the status of their application online from home, no need to visit offices.

Amount received by states

Madhya Pradesh: ₹1,156 crore (highest)

Rajasthan: ₹1,121 crore

Chhattisgarh: ₹150 crore

Other states: ₹773 crores.

Now penalty on delay, rules applicable from Kharif 2025 season

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in a statement, “From the Kharif 2025 session, if a state government delays its subsidy contribution, it will be fined 12 per cent and similarly, if insurance companies delay payment, they will also be fined 12 per cent.

New system of claim settlement

Now farmers will not have to wait for relief. The central government has introduced a simple system. Without waiting for the premium share of the states, payment will be made immediately only on the basis of central subsidy.

Trouble of farmers of Andhra Pradesh

Last year, the then government of Andhra Pradesh did not pay its share in the premium, due to which the farmers there could not get the benefit of insurance. Taking a lesson from this, strict rules have now been made. The Agriculture Minister said, “Some states had announced that they would bear the cost of farmer insurance premium themselves. But, the then Jagan government in Andhra Pradesh failed to contribute its state’s share of the premium for 3 consecutive years. Due to which the farmers of Andhra Pradesh suffered huge losses as they did not get their due crop insurance benefits.”

9 years record: 5 times more compensation.

Under the PMFBY scheme started in 2016, so far

78 crore farmers have benefited. Claims worth ₹1.83 lakh crore were paid, while farmers paid only ₹35,864 crore premium. That is, farmers got 5 times more money back than the premium.

Fake claims in 8 districts of Maharashtra
Once 1.75 lakh farmers in 8 districts of Maharashtra (Solapur, Pune, Satara, Ahilyanagar, Dhule, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Beed) had given wrong information for crop insurance. Investigation revealed that these farmers had submitted false documents. The maximum irregularities took place in Solapur district, where the claims of 36,438 farmers were found suspicious. Now the state government has decided to exclude all of them from the scheme.
