The court of Consumer Commission Chairman Hemanshu Mishra, members Aarti Sood and Narayan Thakur has directed HDFC Life Insurance to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 and Rs 10,000 for litigation for not paying the claim amount. Apart from this, the court has also asked to pay the claim amount of Rs 1,55,620 along with 9 percent interest to the complainant.
According to the information, Neelam Kumar, wife of late Darshan Kumar, resident of Sidhbari Tehsil Dharamshala, had complained to the Consumer Commission that her husband had taken an insurance policy of Rs 1,55,620 under the Group Credit Product Plus Plan.
Meanwhile, her husband died on March 28, 2022. The complainant applied to HDFC Life Insurance Company with documents for the claim, but the insurance company refused to pay the claim amount by raising several objections. After this, due to deficiency in service, the complainant complained about it to the Consumer Commission. While accepting the complaint, the Consumer Commission directed the insurance company to pay Rs 1,55,620 with 9 percent interest. Along with this, it has also been asked to pay Rs 10,000 as compensation and Rs 10,000 for litigation.
