PM Jan Dhan Yojana: To connect the general public with the banking sector, the central government started the PM Jan Dhan Yojana in the year 2014. Under this scheme, even poor people can open a bank account with zero balance. In case of death of the account holder in an accident, a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh is given.

PM Jan Dhan Yojana: Many types of schemes are run by the central government and state governments. In this, there is an attempt to cover every section from the common man. With the aim of connecting the poor section to the banking sector, the central government started the Jan Dhan Yojana in the year 2014.

Under this scheme, many types of facilities are provided to the account holders on opening an account. So far, accounts of crores of people have been opened under this scheme. Not only rural but also urban areas people are taking advantage of the scheme.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana i.e. PMJDY is such a scheme. Under which any citizen can open his bank account without any money. This account is called Jan Dhan Account. Its most special thing is that there is no need to keep a minimum balance in it.

This means that even if there is not a single rupee in your account, your account will continue. The bank will not charge you any penalty or charge. This is the reason why this scheme is no less than a boon especially for the poor and low income group.

These people cannot open an account

Under this scheme, priority is given to the poor section to open an account. It includes people from both urban and rural areas. No citizen working in the central government or state government can open an account in this scheme. Retired employees from the central or state government also cannot open an account in this scheme. At the same time, people who pay tax also cannot open an account in the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. Beneficiaries of any government scheme already cannot open an account in this scheme.

Benefits of Jan Dhan Account

Free Insurance Cover

After opening a Jan Dhan account, RuPay Debit Card is made for every person. Through this card, every beneficiary gets accidental cover of up to Rs 2 lakh. It means that if a person dies in an accident, then they can claim up to Rs 2 lakh. At the same time, if a person becomes partially disabled, then he gets an insurance cover of up to Rs 1 lakh. Apart from this, Jan Dhan account holders are also given a life insurance cover of up to Rs 30,000. This acts as a security cover for their future.

Facility to borrow up to Rs 10,000

Under this scheme, overdraft facility is also provided on opening an account. That is, even if you do not have money, you can still borrow up to Rs 10,000 from the bank. But keep in mind, this facility is available only when your Jan Dhan account is at least 6 months old and the transactions in it are happening properly.

Take advantage of interest

If you have money in your Jan Dhan account, you can also take advantage of 4 percent annual interest on the deposited money.

These documents will be required

To open this account, the applicant should be at least 10 years old. Aadhar card, ration card, driving license, PAN card, voter ID can be given to open a Jan Dhan account. Any person can also open a joint account. No money is required to open an account.

Opening a Jan Dhan account is very easy. For this, you can go to any government or private bank branch near you and fill the form. Some banks have now started providing this facility online as well, so that you can open an account sitting at home without standing in line.
