Big News for Niva Bupa policy holders! Cashless treatment will not be available in Max Hospitals

What happened?

  • Niva Bupa Health Insurance has temporarily suspended the cashless treatment facility at Max Hospitals across India from August 16, 2025
  • The company says its contract with Max expires in May 2025 , and negotiations on annual tariff revisions failed.
  • Max Healthcare has stated that it was not willing to further reduce the tariff demand maintained at 2022 levels as this could impact patient safety and quality of treatment

The effect of this decision

  • Due to this, thousands of Niva Bupa policyholders will not be able to avail the benefit of cashless facility and they will have to first pay during treatment and then apply for reimbursement.
  • However, Niva Bupa has introduced a priority reimbursement process —where customers who are already undergoing treatment will try to have their reimbursement processed as quickly as possible.
  • Meanwhile, if you still want to go cashless , the company has suggested the option of its 10,000+ other network hospitals where this facility is still available.

other details

  • The company took the step ” after exhausting all other options ” and described it as a difficult decision that involved administrative and procedural challenges.
  • Max also said that he continued the treatment even after the contract ended , but this became impossible as Niva Bupa kept pressing for a reduction in tariff.

Summary Table

Tips for policyholders:

If you are getting treated at Max Hospitals , keep your emergency fund arrangement ready as it will be necessary to make the payment first now.

If you depend on cashless facility , check the list of other network hospitals and possibly consider getting treatment there.

Check the status of the reimbursement reclaim process regularly , especially if treatment is ongoing.
