₹1,570/year Is the Legal Minimum
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) made third-party bike insurance mandatory for all two-wheelers registered after April 1, 2024. A 100cc Honda Activa in Delhi costs exactly ₹1,570/year, the lowest premium the regulator allows. Any rider without this cover by April 30, 2026 faces a ₹2,000 fine and 3-month license suspension, warned traffic DCP Anita Sharma at a March 28 press meet in Connaught Place.
A 150cc Royal Enfield Needs ₹9,800/year
Comprehensive bike insurance starts at ₹3,200 for a 110cc Bajaj Pulsar in Mumbai but jumps to ₹9,800 for a 150cc Royal Enfield Himalayan in Bengaluru, shows March 2026 quotes from Policybazaar. That’s 5.2× the third-party rate. Riders in Noida pay the least ₹8,400 because the city has only 12 claim cases per 1,000 vehicles, according to Uttar Pradesh RTO records filed March 10.
Zero Depreciation Can Cost an Extra ₹1,200 on ₹12k Policy
Add zero-depreciation cover to your ₹12,000 comprehensive policy for a 2019 Yamaha FZ V3 in Pune and the quote rises to ₹13,200, says Go Digit’s March collateral manager Ashish Deshpande. Without it, your claim for ₹50,000 worth of body panels would pay only ₹32,500 after 3 years of 20% annual depreciation, Internal Audit Unit calculations reveal.
Bundle Your Policy and Save 18% on EMI
Bajaj Allianz’s “All in One” plan for ₹14,300, launched January 2026, gives 5% extra IDV if you buy health plus bike cover. Riders in Ahmedabad who signed up in February saw average premiums fall to ₹12,967 including 18% GST. ICICI Lombard’s February “Bike Care” bundle dropped yearly cost by ₹1,900 when combined with a ₹25 lakh term plan, according to company filings on February 19.
Musical Instrument Clause Cuts Claims by 40% at Festivals
In response to rising festival thefts, HDFC ERGO added a ₹50,000 sub-limit for musical equipment from July 2025. Claims for stolen guitars at NH7 Weekender Pune dropped 40% in the three months post-launch, per the insurer’s March fraud unit report. However, riders in Goa must declare their gig schedule or the clause becomes void, the insurer warned at a Goa Tourism board meet on March 15.
EV Gear Costs ₹42,000 to Replace—Only 7% Owners Declare It
Owners of a 2023 Ola S1 Pro in Chennai now list the ₹20,000 fast-charger plus ₹22,000 home wall-box in their policy. Yet only 7% did so in Q4FY26, says Ola Electric’s claim audit shared April 1. Tata Motors EV insurance now bundles ₹35,000 EV accessory protection for an extra ₹950/year, raising total premium to ₹7,800 from the standard ₹6,850.
File Within 48 Hrs or Lose 30% Payout
A Delhi claims manager at ICICI Lombard told reporters on March 5 that riders who file FIRs and intimation within 48 hours receive 100% payouts. Those filing on day 4 get only 65% because of spurious repair quotes surfacing post-accident. In Mumbai, 38% of riders miss the deadline, the RTO’s March 20 roadshow statistics show.
Zero NCB? Your Next Policy May Jump 25%
IRDAI’s April 2026 circular lets insurers charge 25% extra if you have no No Claim Bonus after two consecutive claim-free years. A Pune rider with 50% NCB saw his ₹11,200 policy renewed at ₹14,000 in February after a single theft claim in January. The same rider can restore NCB to 50% by avoiding claims for two more policy years.
Purchase Today; Policy Active by Midnight Tonight
Last October’s IRDAI rule change lets you buy bike insurance instantly. A Kotak Mahindra policy bought at 11:55 PM on March 28 for ₹9,600 in Jaipur activated by 12:03 AM March 29. That’s faster than the earlier 24-hour cooling period that ended in January 2026.
