Car Insurance : People who buy cars worth lakhs are stingy for Rs 100, 50% of them do not even have insurance, what will happen to such people?

What if Insurance Expires: A recent report says that more than 50 percent of the people in the country have not even got their vehicles insured. Not only this, only 30 percent of the people have got PUCC made. What will happen to such people according to the law?

New Delhi. Looking at the monthly car sales report, it seems that people in the country are flooded with money. The sale of luxury cars is increasing day by day. People are buying new models of cars, but are stingy in spending just Rs 100. This not only causes them loss, but also creates problems for others. A recent report has claimed that more than half the people do not insure their cars and 70 out of 100 people do not even get a pollution certificate. What will happen to such people legally?

The recent report of CARS24 and ORBIT says that how people who buy expensive cars adopt an indifferent attitude towards their car worth lakhs. Despite the government making strict laws and constantly spreading awareness, people are neither buying insurance nor getting a pollution certificate (PUCC) made. The claims being made in this report are quite shocking and this also exposes the carelessness of people.

What do the figures show
The report states that 50 percent of the vehicles in the country do not even have valid insurance. The highest number of these is of two-wheelers. The situation is such that in states like Delhi, UP, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, less than 30 percent of the people have pollution certificates. On one hand, while the number of vehicles is increasing year after year, on the other hand, the compliance of these standards is continuously declining.

How much negligence in following the standards
The figures show that there is gross negligence in following these standards. In southern states like Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, the compliance rate is 9.6 percent, while in northern states this figure is 5.6 percent. The biggest problem of northern states is lapsed insurance, while in southern states the biggest problem is violation of pollution certificate. In Maharashtra, the rate of compliance with standards is only 1.9 percent, while in Rajasthan this figure is slightly better with 6.74 percent.

People are not even paying the challan
The report states that between June 2024 and 2025, there has been a jump of more than 17 percent in payments through Fastag, while the average balance in it has also started to be more than Rs 400. This shows how much difference has come between digital and legal compliance. Not only this, people are not even paying the challan money. From the year 2015 till now, challans worth Rs 5.11 lakh crore have been issued, out of which only Rs 1.92 lakh crore has been paid. Till now, challans worth Rs 3.18 lakh crore have not been paid and 7.69 crore challans are pending in the court.

What will happen if there is no insurance and PUCC

For those drivers who do not have car insurance or PUCC, their vehicles can also be confiscated after being challaned. In a city like Delhi where the rate of PUCC is the lowest, a challan of Rs 10,000 is issued for vehicles. Despite this, people are not becoming alert. In the absence of insurance, in case of an accident, the vehicle owner will have to pay the third party from his own pocket. Not only this, if there is any damage to the car, the money for getting it repaired will also have to be spent by himself. Despite this, more than half of the people do not get their vehicles insured.
