Fasal Bima Yojana 2025: This is a big news for the farmers. Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, farmers doing farming on lease will also get the benefit of insurance. For this, the leased farmers will have to take permission from their owner.
Fasal Bima Yojana 2025: An important news has come out regarding Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) 2025. The central government has announced that now tenant farmers will also be able to avail the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). However, for this they will have to get approval from the land owner.
Apart from this, if the land owner gives permission to sell the crop at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), then the crop of the tenant farmer can be purchased at MSP with the consent of the state government. This information has been given by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Let us tell you that the Government of India has started this scheme to help the farmers. If a farmer’s crop is damaged due to rain, storm, drought or insects, then compensation can be received from the government under this scheme. Earlier, tenant farmers were not able to take full advantage of many government schemes. Chauhan said that now this situation is being changed.
Steps taken for tenant farmers
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said in the Lok Sabha that tenant farmers were not able to take full advantage of government schemes, as most leases are verbal and due to lack of documents they were unable to take advantage. The minister said that the government has taken important steps to improve this situation. Chauhan said that now a tenant farmer or sharecropper can also become a member of FPO. He said that in the last few months, more than 6.5 lakh tenant farmers have benefited from PMFBY, while crops have been purchased from about 42 lakh sharecroppers at MSP.
Know who are tenant farmers
According to Niti Aayog and many agricultural experts, there are about 5 crore farmers in India who do not own land but cultivate on the land of others. These farmers are called tenant farmers. These include sharecroppers, those who take land on lease and farmers who farm on contract.
Farmers’ claims worth Rs 5,405 crore are pending
Insurance companies have pending claims of Rs 5,405 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. This information was given by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan in the Lok Sabha. This amount is for several seasons till the Kharif crop of 2024 and is about 6 percent of the total claim. The government has taken several steps to pay the claim quickly, but such a huge amount is still stuck.
In this scheme, farmers have to pay very little premium, only 1.5% to 2%, which varies according to the crop. The remaining premium is paid half-half by the central and state governments. In the northeastern states, the Center pays 90% of the premium.
