Railway Travel Insurance: Cheapest insurance, get a cover of Rs 10 lakh at 45 paise premium

Railway Travel Insurance: Railway travel insurance can be taken at the time of booking the ticket. It is an optional insurance plan, which depends on the passenger whether to take it or not.

Indian Railways provides travel to passengers at very low fares. Due to cheap tickets and comfortable travel, trains are a popular means of transport in India. But, do you know that Indian Railways not only provides cheap travel, but also provides the cheapest insurance. Yes, you can get Railway Travel Insurance for only 45 paise premium.

Railway Travel Insurance compensates the loss suffered by the passenger in a rail accident. In case of death of the passenger in a train accident, an insurance amount of Rs 10 lakh is given. Apart from this, a claim is also available in case of injury.

The travel insurance scheme provided by Indian Railways is an optional insurance scheme, which is available for passengers booking e-tickets through IRCTC app or portal. Railway Travel Insurance is not available on booking tickets from the ticket counter. Also, passengers traveling in general coaches do not get this facility.

How to get Railway Travel Insurance

When online railway ticket booking is done, the option of railway travel insurance comes on the website and app. While booking the ticket, choose the insurance option. You will be charged only 45 paise for insurance. On choosing the insurance option, a link will come on your email ID and mobile number. This link is of the insurance company. By going to this link, you fill the nominee details there. Having a nominee in the insurance policy makes it easier to get insurance claim.

What does railway travel insurance cover?

In case of death of a passenger in a railway accident, an insurance amount of Rs 10 lakh is given. Even if the passenger becomes completely disabled in the accident, the company gives him Rs 10 lakh. In case of permanent disability, an insurance amount of Rs 7.5 lakh is given. Whereas, in case of injury, Rs 2 lakh is given for medical expenses. Up to ₹10,000 is given to take the body of the deceased home. The coverage is valid from the start of the journey till reaching the destination station, which also includes the time of boarding and deboarding the train.

Who can take railway travel insurance?

Only Indian citizens can take advantage of this scheme. Only confirmed or RAC ticket holders can take railway travel insurance. Those traveling in general coaches also do not get it. Children below 5 years of age and foreign citizens cannot take railway insurance.

When do you get Railway Travel Insurance?

Railway Travel Insurance can be claimed in case of train accidents (such as derailment, collision), untoward incidents defined in Sections 123, 124, and 124A of the Railways Act, 1989 such as robbery, terrorist attack, riot, or falling from a train, etc. It does not cover personal accidents (such as suicide) or loss of luggage.
