Debit/Credit Card Users Alert: Do you have a WiFi card, be careful! Money can disappear without PIN

Debit / Credit Card Users Alert: Credit or debit cards with Wi-Fi seem very convenient because they save a lot of your time at the time of payment, but due to a slight mistake, money can be deducted from your account.

New Delhi. If you have a credit or debit card with Wi-Fi, then you need to be very careful. In fact, the danger with Wi-Fi enabled cards is that at least Rs 5,000 can be withdrawn from your bank account without entering the PIN. In such a situation, the question is that if you have such a credit or debit card then how to avoid fraud.

Significantly, Wi-Fi enabled credit-debit cards are also called contactless cards. With such a card, up to Rs 5,000 can be withdrawn from the POS machine without using a PIN. If you have a Wi-Fi credit-debit card in your pocket, then thugs can withdraw money by touching the POS machine in your pocket.

You might not have noticed the symbol like Wi-Fi on the contactless card till now. Check it by taking it out of your purse, there will be a symbol on your credit and debit card, which looks exactly like the Wi-Fi symbol, so understand that you have a contactless card. Wi-Fi card does not mean that it works through Wi-Fi. Actually such card works on Near Field Communication (NFC) and RFID ie Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The range of such cards is 4 cm.

It is necessary to enter PIN for payment of more than 5 thousand rupees.

RBI had fixed the limit of payment through this card at 2 thousand rupees, which has been increased to 5 thousand rupees. For payment above this, it is necessary to enter the PIN. Payment can be made by touching such card only in Point of Sale (POS) machine. In such a situation, a thug can withdraw money by bringing the POS machine close to this card.

Take these precautions to avoid fraud

>> Turn off contactless payment through the website and app of the bank whose card is there.

>> Keep such a card in a case made of metal or keep it wrapped in aluminum foil.

>> Metal wallet can be used to keep Wi-Fi enabled credit-debit cards.

>> While making payment, do not hand over the card to the shopkeeper and get it swapped in front of you.
