Heath Inslurance: Cashless treatment in 1 hour and discharge in 3 hours, IRDA has changed many rules

Cashless Treatment: IRDAI issued a master circular stating that insurance companies will have to take a decision on the approval within 3 hours of receiving the discharge request.

Cashless Treatment: Insurance sector regulator IRDAI has taken a big decision to make health insurance easier. Giving a big relief to the customers, IRDAI has instructed the insurance companies that they have to take a decision on cashless treatment within 1 hour. Also, insurance companies will have to take a decision on approval within 3 hours of receiving the discharge request.

No one should be made to wait in the hospital for discharge
IRDA has made many big changes regarding health insurance policy on Wednesday. It has withdrawn its 55 circulars and issued a master circular. In this, all the rules have been brought at one place. The biggest change in this has been made regarding the claim process. According to the master circular, in no case the policy holder should be made to wait in the hospital for discharge. The companies will have to give approval within 3 hours in any case. If there is more delay than this, then the insurance company will have to pay the additional expenses.

In case of death, paperwork should be completed as soon as possible

If the policyholder dies, the insurance company will have to complete the paperwork and settle the claim as soon as possible so that the family can get the body immediately. All companies should take action as soon as possible towards achieving the target of 100 percent cashless claim settlement. In case of emergency, they will have to decide on approval within one hour. IRDA has set a deadline of July 31, 2024 for insurance companies to comply with these rules. Insurance companies will also have to set up help desks inside the hospital.

Policy holders who do not make claims will get offers
IRDA has directed all companies to launch health insurance products with all the facilities. Insurance companies will also have to provide customer information sheet along with the policy. If there are multiple policies, the customer will have the freedom to choose. Offers will have to be given to policy holders who do not take a claim. Those who terminate the policy midway will have to return the money to the company.
